Condensation can turn a bathroom into a mold factory that ruins tile and triggers allergies. DewStop's weather-prediction software turns on the bathroom fan when temperature and humidity levels get too high, and it predicts how long the fan should run based on how much water vapor is in the air, so the fan won't waste energy or shut off too quickly. And whereas other detectors require installing a new ventilation system, DewStop easily connects to existing bathroom fans.

FAQ

I only have two black wires, how do I properly connect DewStop?

- One of those wires is in coming power and one is power to the fan. Please refer to the instruction manual for proper wiring of DewStop. Here is the link to the manual.

I do not have a white neutral wire, will DewStop still work without it?

- DewStop fan switch does need a white neutral to operate. Generally there is a type of neutral wire available in your junction box (wall box). Older homes or homes where code was not followed can make it a problem to find a neutral. You will need good knowledge of electrical and an electrical testing device to find a neutral wire. We strongly suggest you use a Licensed and Bonded electrician for this task.

How do I set DewStop's sensitivity for my specific bathroom?

- DewStop comes preset at the 12:00 o'clock position. This is the best place to start. For further instruction on setting your sensitivity levels, please refer to the manual included with your DewStop switch.

The fan comes on too early/too frequently. How can I fix this?

- This means DewStop is set to a higher sensitivity level. Simply turn the sensitivity dial counterclockwise slightly to reduce sensitivity. We suggest small increments at a time.

The fan doesn't come on soon enough, there is already moisture on the walls by the time the fan comes on. How do I fix this?

- If you want DewStop to come on faster, you can rotate the sensitivity dial clockwise. Now DewStop is more sensitive. Move to the right again if needed but only move in small increments until you find the right setting.

I occasionally like to steam up my bathroom. Is it possible to disable the sensor?

- Yes! You can disable the sensing of moisture. Make sure the fan is OFF. Now push down and hold down the button for 15 seconds, then release the button. Moisture sensitivity is now disabled.

If I disable the sensor, can I still turn the fan on/off manually?

- Yes! You can turn ON and OFF your fan manually. Now the fan switch is a manual ON OFF and the timer will continue to work.

How do I turn the sensor back on?

- Yes! It’s easy to turn the moisture sensing back ON. Make sure the fan is OFF. Now push down and hold down the button for 15 seconds, then release the button. Now the moisture sensor is able to detect moisture again.

I use an air conditioner during the day in the summer, then turn it off at night. When I do this, my fan comes on. What is happening?

- Sometimes when the air conditioning is turned OFF the house will start to attract moisture and this is similar to taking a shower or bath. DewStop senses this and turns ON the bath fan. You can avoid this by reducing the sensitivity level. To do this, rotate the dial counterclockwise. We suggest small increments at a time.

The blue LED light is pulsing. What does this mean?

- The pulsing is telling you that DewStop sees moisture and DewStop is running the fan to remove the moisture. When the blue LED is solid (not pulsing on/off the fan is ON and in manual timer mode or in DewStop drying mode. Note: When DewStop senses moisture it will run the fan as long as it takes to dry the room back to the level it saw your room at prior to the moisture. After a shower or bath this is typically 25-35 minutes. THE MANUAL TIMER SETTING DOES NOT CHANGE THE DRYING TIME, it is important that your room is properly dried. The manual timer is for smell removal time only.

I lost my adjustment tool that came with DewStop. Can I use a screw driver to make adjustments?

- Yes you can use any small tool but be careful not to break the small sensitivity and time dials with a large screw driver tool.

What happens if someone turns the fan off before the room is properly dried out?

- DewStop knows your room needs to be dry and if someone turns OFF DewStop its OK. DewStop will sense the moisture again after one minute and turn back ON to finish drying the room.

If I set my Countdown Timer to 5 minutes, does that mean that the fan will only run for 5 minutes when moisture is detected?

- No. The timer is for smell removal time. The moisture detection runs longer and runs until the room is back to the original dryness before the shower or bath.

I really like the DewStop switch! Can I order a second one separately?

- Yes!

FAQ

BATH FAN

Where is the model number located on my fan?

- Remove the shield and you will see the model number near the cUL marking inside the fan area.

How do I clean my fan?

- It is important to clean the shield from time to time. Dust with moisture can build up on the shield. Remove the shield and clean with warm soapy water, let dry completely then replace the shield.

I lost my manual! Where can I get another copy?

- You can download the manual here.

What is CFM?

- CFM means: Cubic Feet per Minute. This is one 12-inch by 12-inch cube of air that flows out through the fan in just one minute’s time. DewStop Breeze Easy flows 100 cubic feet of air every minute. This is a high rate of flow that helps to keep up with the shower and dry your room quickly.

What is a Sone?

- Sone is a way to give us all a number relating to what our human ear is really hearing. 1sone is about the sound level of a quiet refrigerator running noise level. 1 sone is important to know because 2 sones is double the loudness to the human ear of 1 sones.

Can I install my bathroom ventilation fan directly over a bathtub or shower?

- Yes, but you must have your fan on a GFCI protection breaker. You must use or consult a Licensed Electrician.

Do I HAVE to vent my fan to the outside?

- Yes. All spot ventilation fans must be vented to the outside. See your local code for advice on how to meet the code. See our manual for national venting installation suggestions and guidelines.

Why do the windows and mirrors fog even when fan is running?

- If windows and mirrors are very cold, condensation can still form on those surfaces. If the bathroom is sealed tightly replacement air may not be entering the room fast enough to displace moist air. Fan placement may also be a factor. You need a gap under the bathroom entrance door to allow make up air to enter the bathroom. Your vent pipe must also be a short run and vented to the outside. If you vent pipe is blocked the fan cannot push the air out side to dry the room.

My fan is operating but the air is moving slower than normal?

- Check the grille for buildup and clean if needed or check for obstructions in ductwork. A common problem is a debris in roof cap.

Why is water dripping from my fan?

- Dripping water is typically condensation from a cold vent pipe. Insulating the ductwork and FAN housing can help solve condensation problems. Running the fan longer will ensure moisture is completely removed from the duct. Another possibility is rain entering the vent pipe through the roof vent opening.

I have installed my fan and it is not working, what do I do?

- Make sure the black and white plug-in connector on the fan is clicked into place. Check all electrical connections like wire nuts and quick connects. Make sure the circuit breaker is turned ON after completing all the electrical work. If you have any concerns consult a licensed electrician.

BATH FAN CONTROL

My existing switch only has two wires. How do I properly connect the control to the fan?

- You will need to test these wires with a voltage tester to determine which one is power and which one goes to the fan. The black wire on the control connects to the wire that is tested to be the incoming power. The red wire on the control connects to the wire that is tested and confirmed to connect to the fan. You will need a neutral and a ground. Please refer to PAGES 14-15 of the manual for instructions on how to properly wire the control. If you have any concerns, we suggest consulting a licensed electrician.

Will the control still work without a neutral wire?

- A neutral is required to operate the control. Generally, there will be a neutral wire available in your junction box (wall box). Older homes or homes where code was not followed can make it a problem to find a neutral. If that’s the case for you, then you’ll need an electrical testing device to find a neutral wire. We suggest you use a qualified licensed electrician to do this work.

- Yes!
